With 25 years, comes a lot of change. Over the last couple of years, Waurn Ponds Estate has really begun to make their mark in corporate functions and its individuality now sets it apart. Offering a menu created with only local and seasonal food which is handmade and organic where possible, eight purpose built, technology rich conference rooms and contemporary accommodation, the Estate is in its own class.
What is the estate used for?
Waurn Ponds Estate (formerly Deakin Management Centre) was built by Deakin University in 1993 to facilitate the University’s MBA program.
Designed by award winning architects McGlashan Everest, who have been responsible for iconic buildings such as Heide & Heide II (Museum of Modern Art) and Deakin University’s Woolshed transformation at the Waterfront campus. The Estate was designed to be a tranquil retreat, with spaces to work but also areas throughout the building to encourage social interaction and collaboration.
How has the Estate changed over time?
In late 2016, the Estate underwent a significant renewal program, including major works involving the refurbishment of all 60 accommodation rooms, break out spaces, the restaurant, technology within the function spaces and the addition of a kitchen garden. Works from the Deakin University Art Collection compliment throughout the property’s common areas adding a new sense of vibrancy and conversation.
Why Waurn Ponds Estate is the perfect function venue
The Estate is managed by a team of highly experienced hospitality professionals, who provide an engaged, cultured and educated environment. Waurn Ponds Estate is committed to providing Deakin University and the communities it serves a high level of corporate hospitality for the future.
Encouraging interaction
The Estate was designed with the intention to encourage interaction and collaboration. From the kitchen garden, to the expansive indoor lounge area, the Estate’s public spaces can be used to meet, greet or unwind. The use of food to encourage conversation is a vital element, while also making for a memorable experience. Both the feasting and shared dining options are used to promote interaction between delegates and guests.
Unique Venue
The regional Victorian conference venue is set on Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus. The venue’s uniqueness comes from the convenience of on-site accommodation, locally sourced produce and its proximity to some of regional Victoria’s best activities.
Food philosophy
Here, at the Estate, food is the way of connecting locality, culture and people. Our talented team use a simple food philosophy – complement each ingredient, not to complicate it.
